Tony Hennigan from the festival website commented “We are delighted to be teaming up with Levy market again during this years Manchester Irish Festival. Levenshulme is home to one of the biggest Irish communities in the UK and has been one of the main hubs for the festival since it started in 1996. It is great to see the market joining in our cultural celebrations and helping us launch the festival at the market.”
Vic Townsend-Jones from Levy Market added, “Levenshulme Market is a social enterprise run by the community and is responsive to the people around us. It’s an honour to support any culture from our neighbourhood and a huge joy to kick start our first market back of the year with the wonderful Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band.”
The band last year celebrated their 70th Anniversary as the UKs longest running Irish Pipe band and will perform at Levy Market at 12 noon until 1230. After a short performance at the popular market, the band will then launch their exhibition ‘Attymass to Ashford Castle’ in Fred’s Ale House.
The exhibition features the bands recent summer tour of Mayo in the West of Ireland with the week long Mayo Manchester Tradfest. The show has been sponsored by Mayo County Council and forms part of their campaign to promote their worldwide Mayo Day celebrations on Saturday 4 May.
