Joe Keegan pre-launches 2018 Irish Festival with Debut EP
Manchester Irish Festival Singer songwriter, Joe Keegan is set to release his Debut EP “The Pick Myself Up EP” online on his 21st Birthday on Tuesday 20th February and its physical live EP launch on Thursday 1st March at the Deaf Institute in Manchester City Centre. Joe will be showcasing songs from this EP and previews of tunes set to be released in his second EP. The band’s live show is a feast of high energy folky joy with the support slot filled by the new folk duo, “The Blackberry Fold” and Gibraltarian pop band “Frontiers.”
The EP has been created to feature all the brilliant aspects of songwriting in Irish Folk music inside a more contemporary pop setting. The emphatic ‘Folk Pop’ sound of the EP is born out Joe’s Irish heritage, being brought up surrounded by Irish music, and his subsequent love of bands like Coldplay, Mumford and Sons and Kodaline.
When asked about how he felt to be launching his debut EP, Joe replied "I'm really excited its been my goal for a long time, its great to link the online launch with my birthday and pre-launch the Manchester Irish Festival on Thursday 1st March which officially runs from Friday 2nd to the 18th March (www.manchesteririshfestival.co.uk),"
Tony Hennigan from the Manchester Irish Festival website added "We are delighted to be involved with helping Joe and his band launch their debut EP, his vocal ability is exceptional which is complimented by a great set of musicians who take his songs to another level. It is great to see him use the Irish Festival to showcase his debut EP."
Joe is quickly proving himself to be a force to be reckoned with in the Manchester folk scene, touring with the Mayo Manchester Trad Fest in Ireland and playing at some of Manchester’s biggest and most prestigious Irish folk venues as well as headlining this year at the Manchester Irish Festival Marquee on the Town Hall Square from the Thursday 8th to St Patrick's Day itself on Saturday 17th March.
After enrolling at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 2017 Joe formed the band that went into the studio with him to record the EP. The band includes the BBC 2 Folk Award winning fiddle player Ciaran Algar who has added an incredible top layer of excellence to the songs.
The Band's line up is Joe Keegan on Lead vocals and guitar, Ciaran Algar on fiddle and vocals, Fraser Grant - Bass, Dave Smith - Drums, Tom Knight - Lead Guitar and Andrew Jones - Keys Player/Musical Director & Producer.
